BANNER PASSWORD RULES AND RESTRICTIONS

To comply with the Arkansas State Legislative Audit Division's password security requirements, the following rules are being implemented for Banner beginning in March of 2008.

PASSWORD RULES at NWACC:

  • Must be a minimum of 8 bytes (characters and numbers) in length.
  • First character must be alphabetical (upper or lower case), not numeric.
  • Must have at least one alpha character (upper or lower case) and one number.
  • Cannot contain special characters (i.e. punctuation)
  • Cannot contain any Banner login username.
  • Cannot contain "eagle", "nwacc", "banner," or certain other restricted words. For a complete list of these restricted words contact Curt Swartzlander or Laquita Dees.
  • Must have at least 5 unique non-repeating characters.
  • Expires every 90 days (A reminder will advise you when to change password.)
  • The last 12 passwords cannot be used when changing your password within a time period of 45 days. You may reuse a password after 45 days if you have changed the password 12 times.
  • After 5 consecutive unsuccessful login attempts, the account is locked. To unlock the account contact Curt Swartzlander or Laquita Dees.
  • After 30 minutes of inactivity the Banner session times out requiring the user to login to Banner and start a new session. Any changes made that have not been saved are lost.
